FOOX: Spellbinding Poem in Denver
Jan 5, 2009 10:41:04 AM
Almost an ode to something mysterious or symbolic, this poem wraps itself around the base of the Hyatt Hotel here in Denver CO. The workmanship in placing this poem on the building is amazing - technically perfect and not without pattern or rhythm.
(I do not know who the author of this poem/spell is and therefore cannot attribute credit. If anyone knows who "J.R." is please let me know!)

FOOX: Where I Paint
Jan 5, 2009 9:39:58 AM
Does the space around you effect the type of art produced? Does your environment affect your art output?
I believe that every artist cultivates a personal style and within that style exists elements of the artist's surroundings. While I know nothing about art history (nor claim to), I believe that other famous artists throughout history have also been influenced by their surroundings.
So here in Denver Colorado is my art studio. The studio gets tons of sun. Denver is very bright with little to no humidity (paint dries quickly). My art studio has over 60 windows and I have split the digital studio from the wet studio. The digital studio is in the basement (and also luckily no windows there). The wet studio gets all the love and I spend most of my time there.
I plan on using this studio space to create my upcoming series of paintings titled "Creatures of God". I have already started the series and the first few works in progress make cameos in this video.

FOOX: Denver Graffiti Management Scheme
Jan 5, 2009 7:00:30 AM
Having just moved to Denver we received this packet in the mail. It contains information regarding "Graffiti and Solid Waste Management".
Denver is one of the most beautiful cities in the world - IMHO. The streets are pristine, the buildings are crisp and beautiful, there is a nice mix between old buildings and new architecture, downtown is friendly and clean, the colors in the sky compliment the city very nicely, and THE CITY HAS TONS OF ART/MURALS ON ITS WALLS.
So, somehow, Denver has been able to draw a distinction between ART and GRAFFITI. I remember reading street art blogs in New Zealand that were unable to draw a distinction between ART and GRAFFITI. (At the time, I argued with them that a distinction HAD to be drawn between the two).
STREET ART: That which compliments the surroundings, takes into account the audience and the building owner, shows effort or love or talent or skill, and is otherwise considered beautiful by the general public (whether they agree or disagree with the content/message).
GRAFFITI: A crime involving the defacing of property without the permission of the building owner. (I wanted to write more on this but felt unable to define more specifically the nature of the crime).
Here are the scans of the Denver Graffiti Initiative to help keep Denver beautiful:
PS: We just had guests for New Years from New York and they felt that Denver is "very pleasing to the eye".
